York at Queen's 20030901
hotos from the 2003 season opener - The York University Lions vs. the Queen's University Golden Gaels, September 1, 2003 at Richardson Stadium, Kingston, Ontario.
The Gaels built a 34-0 halftime lead and went on to win 47-7 over York before a great frosh week crowd of 9,035. The 40-point margin flattered York as Queen's left many opportunities on the field. The Gaels' offense featured 4 TD passes from Tom Denison to Iain Fleming, Mike Hendry, Andrew Joyner and Craig Spear in addition to a short TD run from Denison. Ten different receivers caught passes totalling 358 yards, while six runners accounted for 118 yards on the ground.
As was the case in 2002, the defense was stellar; excluding the opening series of the second half when York scored its only touchdown, the Gaels held the Lions to a net offense of -18 yards.
