TURNOVERS COST GAELS IN 36-6 LOSS TO NO. 8 MARAUDERS

The Queen's Gaels (2-4) were outgunned by the No.8 McMaster Marauders (5-1) 36-6 under the lights at Ron Joyce Stadium Friday night in Hamilton.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels received to start the game and established their ground game early on. Running back Jonah Pataki (Wallaceburg, Ont.), fresh off a three-touchdown performance against Waterloo, hauled in a pass for 10-yards and followed up with rushes of nine and 18-yards putting the Gaels in strong field position early. McMaster sack leader Mike Kashak hauled down Hobbs for his first of 4.5 sacks on the day, and Queen's was forced to punt.
Queen's returned the favour with a sack to stall the Marauder momentum on the next drive. The Marauders moved to mid-field, and Zac Sauer (Ayr, Ont.) hauled down McMaster quarterback Asher Hastings.
The Marauders kept the pressure on the Queen's quarterback, and Kashak picked up his half sack helping take down Hobbs. Queen's was forced to punt, and the Marauders took over.
Hastings found Dan Petermann for 12 yards setting up an Adam Preocanin 44-yard field goal to give the Marauders a 3-0 lead.
The Gaels found some life on the final play of the quarter as Hastings threw a deep ball to the endzone that was picked off by Nicholas Fraser-Greene (Mississauga, Ont.) giving Queen's possession.
In the second, Hobbs looked to make a pass but his arm was batted down and what looked to be an incomplete pass was called a fumble. Aaron Clarke recovered the football in the end zone for a McMaster touchdown putting them ahead 10-0.
The Gaels turnovers continued into the second as the Marauders took advantage. Clarke intercepted Hobbs and McMaster then turned the play into a Hastings 1-yard keep for a score. Next time out for the Gaels Hobbs found himself picked off again and McMaster added a field-goal.
Queen's, with their offence stalling, turned to a surprising player for a boost as kicker Nick Liberatore (Dartmouth, N.S.) faked a punt and ran for 21 yards from the Gaels 35-yard line for a first down. Queen's moved the ball up to the Marauder 32-yard line, but another Kashak sack pushed the Gaels back for a field-goal. A botched snap forced holder Matteo Del Brocco (Kingsville, Ont.) to attempt a throw that was incomplete.
McMaster tacked on three field goals in the third quarter as Preocanin upped his game total to five on the day.
Liberatore broke up the Marauder shutout attempt with a 39-yard field goal making it 30-3 for McMaster.
After Liberatore had connected once more, Preocanin nailed two more 48-yarders to close out the game at 36-6 for the Marauders.

"We keep shooting ourselves in the foot, the defence is doing their best to give the offence good, field position but ultimately it just comes down to confidence. This week is going to need to be a really good, clean week of practice. Every week is a playoff week, and we need to win, that was our goal tonight, but now we move on to next week, and hopefully we don't run out of weeks." - Nick Dowd, defensive lineman.
