SHEAHAN JOINS TINDALL AND HARGREAVES IN QUEEN'S 100 WIN CLUB AS GAELS OPEN SEASON WITH 42-21 WIN AT YORK

In the first game of the OUA season for the Queen's football team it turned out to be a record-setting day as head coach Pat Sheahan picked up his 100th combined regular season and playoffs victory with Queen's to join Frank Tindall and Doug Hargreaves as the only other Gaels coaches to hit the milestone.
The Gaels started out slow but were able to put up a big fourth quarter en route to the double-up victory over York 42-21.
GAME FLOW
After the game started out slow as the two teams dusted off the rust from the pre-season the Gaels and Lions picked up the pace after being tied at 3-3 heading into the second frame.
A York touchdown was met with a response from the Gaels as Nate Hobbs (Mississauga, Ont.) connected with Matteo Del Brocco (Kingsville, Ont.) down the middle of the field.
After York tacked on a field-goal the Gaels defence came up big. Will Bannatyne (Calgary) got to Lions quarterback Brett Hunchak forcing and recovering a fumble. The Gaels quickly tacked on another seven points as Rudy Uhl (North Vancouver, B.C.) hauled in his first of the season.
The Gaels offence took over in the fourth as they put up an impressive 22 points in the quarter. Hobbs rushed in a touchdown and found Jeremy Pendergast (Kingston, Ont.) through the air on another while running back Jake Puskus (Thunder Bay, Ont.) pounded in a score. Puskus had an impressive outing with 10 rushes for a total of 81 yards.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Queen's University Football Players of the Week for the period ending August 27, 2018 are Nate Hobbs on offence, Will Bannatyne on defence, and Nick Liberatore on special teams from the Gaels 42-21 victory over the York Lions.
Nate Hobbs is the Queen's University offensive football player of the week. The returning veteran quarterback led his Gaels to a 42-21 season-opening win in Toronto over the York Lions. On the afternoon, Hobbs went 19-32 throwing for 320 yards to go along with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Hobbs threw a pair of perfectly thrown passes for 30+ yard touchdowns in the second quarter to give his team a slight advantage into halftime. With a slim 5-point lead in the fourth quarter, Hobbs took control and led the Gaels to three touchdown drives in the quarter increasing their lead to a game-high 22 points.
Not only did Hobbs come away with a week one victory for the Gaels, but he surpassed a new milestone as well. He passed Beau Howes for 4th place in Queen's all-time passing yards with 6,956 career yards thrown.
Will Bannatyne is the Queen's University defensive player of the week. The linebacker had five solo tackles and one assisted for a total of 5.5 tackles.
With the Gaels down 12-10 in the final minute of the first half, Bannatyne forced a fumble on Lion's quarterback Brett Hunchak and recovered it around midfield. The Gaels then quickly converted the turnover into points as they connected for a late touchdown pass to hold a 17-12 lead into halftime.
Nick Liberatore is the Queen's University special teams player of the week. He went 2-2 on field goal attempts and 5-5 in extra point conversions. He had a very good day punting the ball as well. On eight punts he averaged 42 yards, including two punts that went for over 50 yards. On kickoffs, he averaged 63.3 yards on six kicks including one rouge.
