OTTAWA GEE GEES LOSE TO QUEEN'S GAELS
IN OUA EAST FOOTBALL FINAL
Queen's will now play host to the Western Mustangs in the conference final next Saturday.
By Ottawa Sun
What had to be an extremely difficult football season for the Ottawa Gee-Gees came to an end Saturday in Kingston.
The Queen’s Gaels defeated the Gee-Gees 32-15 in the Ontario University Athletics East Division final, earning the right to play host to the Western Mustangs, who beat the Guelph Gryphons 33-13 in the West final, in the Yates Cup championship contest next Saturday at Richardson Stadium.
The Gee-Gees soldiered through on after fifth-year defensive lineman Francis Perron died following his team’s 11-10 loss to the University of Toronto Blues in the season opener, advancing to the East final with a win over Toronto a week ago.
On Saturday, Campbell Fair booted three field goals for the Gee-Gees, who trailed 14-3 at halftime. Quarterback Ben Maracle completed 16 of 31 passes for 185 yards, including a five-yard touchdown toss to Tristin Park. J.P. Cimankinda rushed 15 times for 95 yards.
Queen’s running back Rasheed Tucker scored two touchdowns, and overall he carried the ball 28 times for 187 yards. Gaels quarterback James Keenan, who’s from Ottawa, completed 11 of 21 passes for 187 yards, with two touchdown passes to Josh MacLeod.
