PASCAL TURNS ASIDE 57 SHOTS BUT RAMS FORCE DECIDING GAME THREE WITH 2-1 DOUBLE OT WIN
Queen's Sports Information
The fourth-seeded Queen's Gaels (1-1) and the fifth-seeded Ryerson Rams (1-1) will need a decisive game three to decide a series winner after the Rams scored a double-overtime victory in OUA women's hockey playoff action on Saturday night.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels found themselves slow out of the gate in the opening period as the Rams offence put pressure on the Queen's net for a large portion of the period. The two teams each had power-play chances but it was Stephanie Pascal who turned aside all 11 shots she saw while Queen's was only able to fire two at the Rams net.
In the second period, Ryerson was finally able to solve Pascal with a power-play marker. Kryshanda Green scored her second goal of the playoffs and the Rams lead 1-0, their first lead of the series.
In the third period, the Gaels were able to finally find an equalizer getting a shot past Fanny Vigeant. The puck came to the point on a power-play for Queen's and Nicole Posesorski fired a high shot over the glove of Vigeant from the point to even the score.
Neither team was able to score from there and the game went to overtime.
It took an extra 35:41 but the Rams were again able to beat Pascal. A high shot from Erika Crouse in the second overtime ensured a third and final game was necessary.
Despite the loss, Pascal stood strong all night for the Gaels finishing with 57 saves in the loss.
