OWENS MARKER LIFTS GAELS OVER RIDGEBACKS
The Queen's Gaels men's soccer team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 1-0 on Friday evening, moving them into a tie with the second place Toronto Varsity Blues in the OUA East division.
GAME FLOW
Rookie midfielder Kyle Owens' first goal of the fall came 18 minutes into the opening half of play, but would stand up as the winner all the way until the full-time whistle. The Whitby, Ont. native notched his first-ever OUA conference tally just a few kilometers away from his hometown in the Durham region, allowing Queen's (7-2-4) to maintain its pressure on both the Varsity Blues as well as the first-place Ryerson Rams, who currently sit just two points up on the Gaels heading into the weekend matches.
Goalkeeper Taylor Reynolds stopped both shots on goal he faced to earn his third cleansheet of the season, while Travis Marting stopped 5 of 6 shots in a losing cause for the Ridgebacks, who fall to 5-7-1 on the year but maintain a hold on the final playoff position in the division.

QUEEN'S SHUTS OUT UOIT 1-0
With two of their top strikers on the sidelines, the UOIT men's soccer team knew goals would be tough to come by.
The Ridgebacks were accurate with their pregame assessment as the Queen's Gaels left Oshawa with a 1-0 win and three points in the standings.
Kyle Owens' goal in the 19th minute was the difference maker as the Gaels earned their seventh win of the year and extended their unbeaten streak to three games.
The Ridgebacks made a late push looking for the equalizer and controlled the flow of the game for the final ten minutes. In injury time off a corner kick, Mitchell Hunt (Bowmanville, Ont) attempted to get his head on the loose ball but Queen's keeper Taylor Reynolds got his hands on it to return it to safety.
Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) made five stops in the losing effort.
