By Queen's Sports Information
The Gaels (4-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season 4-2 against the Carleton Ravens (5-1-1) in their first game at the revitalized Richardson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Carleton came out strong in the first half, gaining a 2-0 lead over Queen's. Daud Dahir scored in the 9th minute, with an assist from Rowen Martino. Carleton followed up with another goal in the 27th minute by Mekonen Lovemore-White. Julian Piccioli picked up an assist on the goal. The Gaels failed to get a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half was much closer, and very action-packed. Queen's opened the second half scoring to make the game 2-1. Tonko Bacelic (Mississauga, Ont.) took a perfect through ball from Briam Jimenez-Lopez (Brampton, Ont.) before beating a defender to score an unassisted goal in the 59th minute from the outsite of his right foot. Carleton responded with a pair of goals. Julian Piccioli scored in the 68th minute for Carleton to make the game 3-1 from the penalty spot after Gael Kristian Zanette (Thunder Bay, Ont.) picked up a red card for a tackle in the 18 yard box. Walker Smith scored the Ravens final goal in the 74th minute with an assist by Rowan Martino to make it 4-1. Although Queen's forced Carleton to concede an own goal, the Gaels couldn't manage to come back from the 4-2 deficit.

"We have lots to go back to work on. We are very optimistic about this season, with guys getting healthy again. Credit to Carleton, they played quality soccer today. It will make things interesting come playoff time. I was proud of some players, but we were just not a team today." - Head Coach Christian Hoefler
