CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL 2: GAELS DAZZLE HOME CROWD WITH OT VICTORY OVER LAVAL ROUGE ET OR FOR SPOT IN FINAL

Siobhan Sheerin scored a pair of overtime tries in the 73rd and 80th minute sending the Queen’s Gaels to the Women’s Rugby Championship Final with a 28-18 semifinal victory over the defending national champions, Laval Rouge et Or on Friday night in Kingston, Ont.
The Gaels will have home-crowd support at Nixon Field when they square off against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the gold medal game on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
With Queen’s up 12 on Laval in the second overtime frame, No.8 Sophie de Goede added insurance with the All-Canadian’s third successful penalty convert of the game. The U SPORTS Rugby Player of the Year also added two converts in the winning effort.
Third-year Gaels winger Carmen Izyk also scored a try for the Tricolour.
Laval outside centre Audrey Champaign chipped in with a penalty goal and a convert for the Rouge et Or, while Nele Pien and Emelie Desjardins touched down for tries.
