Women's Rugby - Queen's at York 20110923
Photos of the Queen's University Women's Rugby team's dominant 31-3 win over the York Lions at York University, Toronto, ON on September 23, 2011. Sorry for the quality of the photos - the York rugby field is lit but not exactly to broadcast standards...or to the standards of any field with lights I've seen in the CIS. Of course, it beats the York football field which has no lights at all. Makes you appreciate the new West Campus field at Queen's and the new main campus Nixon field under construction.

Andrea Wadsworth of Toronto led the Gaels (3-0) with two tries to a 31-3 win over the York Lions in a hard fought game at York's home field. They battled through tough weather and slick conditions to maintain their undefeated season.
Wadsworth put the first points on the board with a try scored off a stolen York line out. The Gaels stole the ball on the five meter line and continued to spin it wide, giving Wadsworth the space to score the first try of the game.
Natalie Poirier of Carp, Ont. scored the second try of the game, after the Gaels were able to create a turnover in broken play. Excellent teamwork allowed the Gaels to ruck over York's ball, giving Poirier the opportunity to score. Bronwyn Corrigan of Waterloo, Ont contributed a successful conversion to Poirier's try.
Wadsworth scored again late in the first half shortly after a Queen's line out. The Gaels were able to execute their offense well, allowing Wadsworth to score a few phases after Queen's won their lineout. Corrigan was able to contribute another successful conversion making the score 19-0 for Queen's.
With time running out in the first half, rookie Melody Clarke of Barrie, Ont. added another try to the Gael's scoring after solid offense on York's five meter line. The Gaels finished the half on top with a score of 24-0.
The second half saw one more try from captain Susan Heald of Burlington, Ont. who was able to run around seven York players. With a successful conversion from Corrigan, the Gaels concluded the game with a 31-3 victory over the Lions.
Through tough weather conditions, the Gaels were able to come out on top because of their hard offense and organized defense. They ran hard both with the ball and while on defense, as the continuously took away space from York.
