HEYMAN, STRIDE SCORE TRIES AS WOMEN'S RUGBY GAELS DEFEAT YORK

Sydenham High School grad Karley Heyman, a rookie wing from Harrowsmith, scored her team’s first try Friday night, helping the Queen’s Gaels defeat the York Lions 38-15 in an Ontario University Athletics women’s rugby match in Toronto.
Kingston’s Devon Stride, a fourth-year kinesiology student, also scored a try for the No.3-ranked Gaels, who twice had to come back to gain the victory.
York scored the first try of the game and after Queen’s took a 12-5 lead into halftime, the home team scored the first two tries of the second half to take a 15-12 lead. The Gaels then scored 26 unanswered points the rest of the way to secure their second win, without defeat, this year.

No. 3 GAELS COMPLETE COMEBACK TO BEAT YORK

One try and three conversions by Lauren McEwen (Wasaga Beach,Ont.) led the No. 3 Queen's Gaels to a 38-15 victory over the York Lions in OUA women's rugby action at York Stadium Friday.
The York Lions started the game with a lot of momentum with Aisan Fazeli (Thornhill, Ont.) putting the first try on the board.
The Gaels worked hard to put their own points on the board shortly after. Karley Heyman (Harrowsmith, Ont.) scored the first try for the Gaels, while McEwen kicked a successful conversion. The first half remained scoreless following the exciting first few minutes, the half ended with Kayla Roote (Peterborough, Ont.) scoring a try for the Gaels. The score after the first half stood 12-5 for the Queen's Gaels.
The second half saw the Gaels looking to secure their second win of the season. However, Zoe Smith (Toronto, Ont.) managed to break the Gaels back line scoring a try for the Lions. Smith's try was followed by another try for York scored by Sarah Galati (Toronto, Ont.).
Queen's climbed back from the deficit as Claragh Pegg (Barrie, Ont.) put up another try for the Gaels which was followed by a try by Miranda Seifert (Regina, Sask.), McEwen kicked a successful conversion to keep the Gaels in the lead. Devon Stride (Kingston, Ont.) continued the Gaels attack, scoring a try of her own. McEwen closed out the game for the Gaels with a try and a conversion, resulting in a 38-15 win for the Queen's.
